In our first exhibit to the left, we see our prized Toucans. The fellow decked out in orange is Charlie, and his less colourful but still nonetheless beautiful mate, is Charlene. As of yet we have not observed breeding but the two have hit it off!
In the next exhibit we see is home to our Kinkajou breeding pair, Caramel, our female and her mate, Chocolate. They get along splendidly and recently a successful breeding has occured! They love to explore and check out admirers.
The digging you are hearing is coming from none other than our pair of badgers! Storm, our silver male and his white mate, Snow, are getting along better these days. Although no romantic sparks have been spotted, they are snapping a little less at each other nowadays.
The howling you hear over these hills are our shy and endangered Red Wolves, female Belle, sporting an oranger blaze down her muzzle, and her browner mate, Judge. It is hoped that these two will pass on their genes for the survival of their species.
Whoops! We just accidentally startled our breeding pair of jackals, Evo, to your left, and Fly, to the right. Once scrappy with each other, they get along so well that a mating has occured and pups are due any day now. They are a lively bunch, even if Fly tends to look perpetually angry.
Was it us startling the jackals, or was it the growling of our hyenas? Rabbit, our light female, is once again bossing around her darker mate, Winnie. It is hoped that these two rear cubs, but for now, their focus is on chewing their bones and having marital tiffs.
Down on the butterfly meadow, Cleo, above her mate, Champion, have finally settled their differences. Soon there will be a new generation of what I like to call, flutterbies!
Here in the Havenlands Zoo, we have some animals that are free to roam. These include our chickens and our ducks. Strutting in front of his hen, Miss Pine, is Steelbeak!
Just a little further down the path, Darkwing Duck watches on from behind his mate, Morgana. Ducklings are soon going to be hatched!
Watching the fowl with great interest are our dingoes, Rango, and her dark mate, Prince. The chickens and duck like to tease them by running past their enclosure. Such tempting teases they are! Although they tustle and scrap, they truly frown when they are taken away from each other for any length of time.
The zoo's education department's ferrets are often taken out for visitors for meet and greets. Millford is the white, and his colourful lady, are rarely ever apart.
The small slinky fuzzies always attract attention by the zoos EC Panthers. Icy is a rare white leucistic, and her mate, melanistic, the sometimes sheepish Lambert.
Always ready for fun are Ringtailed Lemurs, Moon and Magic. Here, female Moon is showing off her species namesake, her ringed tail. Breeding is in the future for these two, but for now, they are enjoying their time, exploring their walk through enclosure.
The newly opened petting farm is home to two Shetland Ponies, Lassie, the black male, and her companion, Flynn. These two enjoy visitors, and have never known a stranger.
In the North American Woods exhibit, Virginia Oppossum, Florida, stalks a enrichment device as her mate, Oregon, watches on. Not quite the romantic couple, they are nonetheless fascinating creatures from a time long ago.
When a camera is pulled out, coyote Nuntayak, never fails to strike a pose. Her mate, Durango, can't be half bothered. A scrappy pair when it comes to romance, these two nontheless enjoy checking things out together. Typical coyotes, they are proof their species are tricksters!
The rodents of the Havenlands Zoo education department always appreciate a visitor or two! Here is curious fawn hooded rat Lizzie, checking everyone out, as her mate, Smokey, watches on. These two have helped many zoo visitors overcome their phobia of rats due to their doglike friendliness!
Not to be outdone by cuteness are the Pygmy Mice, Jake, sporting those sleek white markings, and his little lady, Taluha. These two love to run and play with one another, and ike Lizzie and Smokey, help in banishing rodent phobia.
Our pair of Swedish Wolves are among our pride and joy. These two youngsters have had a lot of fun settling into their new enclosure. They are a touch clumsy in their youth but in due time they are no doubt going to grow up to be the noble wolves they were born to be!
Next door, are our BH Wolves. Playful and friendly, they always appreciate an admirerer. Due in part to their shy nature we ensured they became accustomed to positive human experiences at a young age. As you may see here though, they love nothing better than a good tumble!
To your right, are our other Australian friends, the wallaby. They don't always get along, but always manage to put aside their differences in a game of catch the boomerang! Peanut is the lighter of the two.
Some of the most affectionate residents at the zoo are our foxes Angelo and Drea. Here, Angelo is sneaking a kiss to his dear darker coloured vixen. We are happy to report that she is expecting a litter very soon.
As our trail loops back near the Red Wolf exhibit, we come upon our pair of cheetahs, tamu and Tabu, Tamu being the one who had just been startled by a . . . Butterfly flying by. These cats are notoriously difficult to breed and although these two have not shown an interest in such yet, we are happy to report that they at least get along well and love to play in their off exhibit area that is located on the beach!
Next door to the cheetahs are another highly endangered species of carnivore, the Ethiopian Wolf. These two youngsters enjoy a fine tussle in their enclosure made to resemble their native home in Ethiopia. Karula is our typically coloured orangey red female, and her made is the darker redder fellow.
This concludes our tour of the Havenlands Zoo. We have plans to expand and hope you come back to see who's new to the zoo!
